So often, when we mention a breeder, we think of their stallions. With Andalusians, this is especially true...since Andalusian stallions possess a presence and style which captivate all who see them. However, regardless of the quality of the stallion, a good breeder knows that in order to achieve a truly superlative breeding program, those stallions must be complimented by equally great mares.

We feel so honoured to own mares of such grace, power, elegance, and quality...passing on their excellence to their foals and to future generations. They are the soul of our farm.

(Leopardo II x Floridita II)

1979

Garbosa XI was our foundation mare, and was without a doubt the most beautiful creature I have ever seen in my life. A Reserve National Champion herself, and dam to the Multiple National Champion stallion, Tranco...as well as our lovely mare, Maya......Garbosa left behind a legacy that will live on. In addition, her untimely death has already helped save hundreds of others like her, through the research that was uncovered trying to save her. Click on her photo to read more about this remarkable mare, and to learn more about equine melanomas.

Cavalier x Mercedes VII

1989

Ferrari stands over 16h, and is blessed with a flowing white mane that reaches well past her chest. She has an ethereal quality to her that makes it very easy to imagine her as a unicorn, moving effortlessly through the fog without seeming to touch the ground.

She is the only offspring of the famous National Champion exhibition stallion, Cavalier, who is now deceased and she is one of the few remaining offspring of the wonderful National performance mare, Mercedes VII. Her bloodlines, like many of our best horses, contain the wonderful mare Pandora, the dam of Mercedes VII, whose descendants are known for their powerful dressage-type movement..

Many people believe that a 16h+ horse can't also be athletic and cat-like. Not so. Ferrari can turn on a dime and she has an engine in her hind-end that has to be seen to be believed. She somehow manages to combine femininity and grace with power and agility...and tops it all off with 'fairy-tale' beauty. The result is out of this world. There is only one Ferrari K!

(Hermes x Rabiosa)

2000

Hespera is by the imported National Champion stallion, Hermes, and out of an exceptional imported mare, Rabiosa, Hespera has all of her dam's elegance, and her sire's pizzaz. She had a promising show career ahead of her, but things changed when Hespera broke her knee while playing in the pasture with another weanling at her original home at Rancho Del Valle in Santa Ynez, California.

Hespera arrived here in a soft cast and continued her convalescence period through the fall/winter of her first year of life while her knee was healing. Now a beautiful 8-year old, she shows no traces of lameness and has matured to over 16h. Not only is she not lame, she is the most spectacular, powerful mover on the property. WOW!

Temperament-wise, she is a very sweet mare who always likes to be doing something. She is extremely energetic and competetive. Her favorite thing is 'race!'

(Bandolero de Plata x Ziara)

1997

We are so thrilled to announce the addition of Amara AMF to our broodmare herd. This wonderful mare is as well-bred as she is beautiful, and her personality is the icing on the cake. She is trustworthy and can be ridden by anyone. She is a 2-time National Champion...winning the 2000 National Champion Futurity Filly title as well as the 2000 National Champion Country Pleasure Driving Horse. In addition, she has earned a number of championships under saddle in regional and local shows. She was started at The Park in Santa Ynez, and has the good manners and excellent work ethic that all of our horses who came from The Park possess. Her most recent training has been in the dressage arena, and she has taken to it like a fish to water. She is the perfect all-around horse and to say that we are delighted that she's here would be a vast understatement. Her dam's bloodlines are the picture perfect fit with our breeding program, including names that are probably redundant by now...and yes, Mercedes VII is in there too. Her dam, Ziara, is one of the most beautiful mares to enter the show ring and was a 3-time National Champion. Her sire, Bandolero de Plata, is a 4-time National Champion.

This photo doesn't do her justice and we hope to have new ones soon. Thank you to Lauren Ackerman of Stonehaven Horses for entrusting this wonderful mare with us.

(Jugueton CV x Castiza II)

1992

1995 IALHA National Champion Mare

Infanta won the IALHA National Champion Mare title in 1995, as a 3-year old. That in itself is impressive....but it is even more so because in 1995, all mares 3 and over competed in the same class. There was no Junior Mare class at that time. So, Infanta won her title when she was barely more than a baby herself, and she won against mature, Senior mares. This is quite an accomplishment.

Infanta has a body that is close to perfection. In addition, she has a long, graceful neck and a beautiful head. With a long, deep, stretchy walk....she is a dream for the dressage enthusiast. In addition to the wonderful walk, she has wonderful ground-covering trot with plenty of lift and suspension. The icing on the cake is her affectionate, level-headed personality, which makes her a joy to be around. She is my favorite riding horse.

Her sire is the National Champion Performance Stallion, Jugueton CV. He is black/bay, so Infanta carries a color gene. Her bloodlines also include the Pandora, and her grandsire is Jugueton V, the National Champion of Spain.

(Arrogante x Mercedes VII)

1992

Here she is......Ferrari's half sister, Imara, the last daughter of Mercedes VII (deceased), who is also the dam of Ferrari. She is by the stunning imported stallion, Arrogante (also deceased).

Imara is one of the most beautiful Andalusian mares you'll find anywhere. Like her sister, she is blessed with a mane that reaches almost to her knees and an ancient air about her that makes you feel like you have stepped back in time.

Imara is one in a million...she has it all. Like her sister, Ferrari, she is a tall, statuesque beauty with presence that is surpassed only by the depth of her pedigree.

(Enamorado x Charisma)

1991

Heidi is a rare combination, blending the best of American foundation bloodlines with some of the oldest foundation bloodlines of Mexico.

She is a classic Andalusian mare. Completely feminine and yet completely powerful, with an 'old soul' air of serenity about her. She is a huge, effortless mover. We often joke that poor Heidi gets overlooked because her best buddy is Miss Universe (Imara), who has all the glamour and flash of a movie star. But Heidi is elegant in a down-to-earth fashion and navigates calmly through all the drama that follows Imara around. It's Katherine Hepburn vs. Marilyn Monroe with those two.

Her sire, Enamorado (the "original" Enamorado) was imported from the beautiful ranch of Gabriel Alarcon in Mexico. Her dam, Charisma, is a Bizarro X daughter, which makes her a natural fit into the bloodlines we breed on since Bizarro X and Don Marco are 3/4 brothers. (Bizarro X was the full brother to my first mare, Garbosa XI.) Heidi is out of the outstanding American foundation broodmare, Capitana, who was the dam of Cavalier, who was the sire of Ferrari K (see above).

Leopardo II x Marguerita

1986

1995 Reserve National Champion Senior Mare

Madera is special for so many reasons. She's a tall, 16h+ statuesque beauty with the soul of an angel who reminds me SO much of my very first Andalusian mare, Garbosa XI (also her half sister). It's been almost ten years since I first met Garbosa, and I have been wondering lately if perhaps my memory of how 'grand' she was has been romanticized and exagerated in my mind by her loss.

As soon as Madera stepped off the truck, I realized that my memory of Garbosa's grandeur is 100% accurate. They were definitely cut from the same cloth...two amazing mares who seem like they are not from this era, but who would have looked perfectly at home in some royal stable from centuries past. Words simply cannot express how drawn I am to this mare. She has captured my heart completely. Even sitting here writing this description, I am compelled to get up and walk out to the pasture just to touch her.

Madera produced the 1996 National Champion Filly, Chablis, who became the foundation mare for JDon Farms East. Madera herself is the 1995 Reserve National Champion Senior Mare, finishing right behind our wonderful Infanta CV.

We can't thank Donna Hecht of JDon Farms enough for entrusting this genetic treasure of a mare to us.

Don Marco x Infanta CV

2002

This is such a "blah" picture for such a beautiful mare, but Dona is just not cooperative when it comes to photos. She is our beautiful baby girl from my two favorite horses, Don Marco and Infanta, and she is pretty much the unanimous favorite when people come to the barn. Dona was very slow to mature, as seems to be the case with these bloodlines, but she has started to blossom as she turned 6 this year. She was originally going to be part of our good friends Chuck and Connie Davenport's herd, but when it began to look like we weren't going to be able to get another foal from Infanta, Dona came back to us. She is creeping up on 16h and is as stunning as she is sweet. She is competitive, athletic and powerful and I can't wait until she finishes greying out so she'll match the rest of the herd.

Dona is progressing nicely with under saddle with our wonderful friend and trainer Brooke Storms. Dona is addicted to peppermints, and her favorite trick is to wear gloves on her ears and impersonate Bullwinkle. It's not very dignified, but it's definitely memorable.

(Cal-O-Bask x MHR Silvanya)

1986

Diana is an impeccably bred, breathtakingly beautiful Arabian mare who has been shown successfully in the California show circuit. Her pedigree reads like a "who's who" of Arabian horses, including close-in, world reknowned stallions such as Bask, Silrief, Comet, and The Real McCoy. With no line breeding within the first 6 generations of her pedigree, and with NINE all-time aristocrat mares behind her, this little gem is priceless.

(Gaffizon x Abi Cutor B)

1986

One of the most treasured mares in the barn, Gaffilee is a powerhouse Arabian mare who has already produced one National Champion by Don Marco, as well as 5 other National quality foals. She consistently produces foals with size, elegance, spectacular dressage-type movement, and best of all, tons of personality and presence.

Her sire is the legendary Gaffizon*, and she is one of only a handful of Gaffizon* daughters in the US that I have been able to locate. She is a true gift who never ceases to bring a smile to my face. She has size, substance, and boldness, all of which are passed onto her magnificent offspring.

True to form, Gaffilee gave birth to a gorgeous colt by Don Marco in 2005. See our sales page for details on this outstanding youngster. His name is Armano, and his personality and presence ooze from the photos, even at only a few hours of age.

Click here to visit Gaffilee's page, with detailed pedigree information and photos of her foals.

Gaffilee is in foal to Don Marco for a May 2007 foal is for sale in utero. This may be Gaffilee's last foal for us, and if it is not sold before it is born and it turns out to be a girl, we will be keeping it.

GH Venture (Bey Shah) x JJ Anja (Gdansk)

1996

Reba stands out on our farm with her blazing red coat. She is a daughter of the beautiful Arabian stallion GH Venture, who is himself a son of the great Bey Shah. On her dam's side, Reba is a grand-daughter of Gdansk. She is tall, substantial and elegant, and has been shown successfully on the Arabian circuit.

Chris Ott, Reba's originall owner, bred her to Notorio in 2004 and the resulting colt was so nice that when Chris decided to downsize, it was only natural that Reba would join our herd. Reba was bred to Malibu in late 2005 and they produced one of the nicest foals - of any breed - that any of us have ever seen. Chris snatched her up as soon as she saw a video of her (so much for downsizing). Since it was so late in the year, we decided to wait and re-breed Reba this spring. She will be bred to Malibu again for a 2008 foal which is for sale.
